Surveys reveal that the average subluxation-oriented practice is composed of about 10% children. This greatly underserves the pediatric population. Not only can we do a lot better than that--we need to do a lot better than that!
Take a minute to consider the following: if you agree with chiropractic principles and philosophy, and have a scientific understanding that subluxation begins at birth or slightly before, then a minimum of 50% of your practice should be composed of children. That means that 1 out of every 2 new patients that enters your office should be a child.
Need more inspiration to make this happen? Here are our top 7 reasons to strive for a practice composed of 50% to 100% of children:
#7 To have more fun and less stress every day in practice! You can't help but have fun when you are surrounded by children who are coming to you for adjustments to help them reach their greatest potential, rather than by adults who all too often come in complaining about their symptoms. You are constantly getting hugs and high fives, --there’s no burnout in this type of practice!
#6 It will extend your career, helping you to practice longer and healthier! Have you ever heard of a fellow chiropractor blowing out a shoulder or injuring their back adjusting a “big” patient? That just doesn’t happen when you work with kids. Because of their small frames, adjusting children renders less wear and tear on your body, making it easier for you to adjust many more patients for many years to come.
#5 It is more rewarding, and the energy in your practice will greatly increase. When you’re surrounded by children’s laughter, hugs and smiling faces, stickers and balloons; you, your staff and your patients can't help but become energized. You will have the opportunity to watch children's lives transform before your very eyes, making it a joy to go into practice every morning.
#4 By adjusting children early, you are helping to save them from an entire lifetime of illness and disability. We start off many lectures by having chiropractors stand up and share about the miracles that happen in their practices every day. Tears always start flowing when we hear pediatric testimonials and what the children went through before their first adjustment. What more reason do you need to strive for a practice of at least 50% kids than watching their lives change forever? At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to see them reach their optimum genetic potential in every level of their lives, and to make the world a better place.
#3 Internal referrals! There is nothing moms like to do more than to talk to other moms. Therefore, once your pediatric practice is established, it will become a self-generating/self-referring entity. Your office will be flooded with kids and families.
#2 More revenue. When you provide superior service and communicate the extraordinary value that we do for children, parents will be more committed, and they will pay more for their children's healthcare than for their own…If you educate parents and families properly, you will create a lifetime patient. And with them, perpetual income…children can grow up in your practice, without you having to continually re-inventing the wheel—saving you time, energy, and money.
#1 To save the profession. A large segment of society perceives that chiropractic is only for musculoskeletal problems, yet a very small percentage of children enter chiropractic offices for this reason. If you develop a practice of 50% to 100% children, it will be because you are educating your community on the true benefits of chiropractic care, to optimize genetic potential and exponentially increase children's potential for higher levels of health and wellness. This will create a truly subluxation based, wellness care practice. As such, society will know what chiropractors do and we can take our profession to its rightful place at the top of the healthcare delivery system for our world!
You may not be serving 50% kids yet, but if you are striving for it, you will be impacting the lives of countless children. Start including efforts to reach children in your marketing and special events budget to attract more children into your practice. Remember, in order to have a congruent practice, we should strive to have a practice comprised of at least 50% kids.
